School Visits

I’m available for in-person or virtual primary school visits.

As a writer of children’s Black history books, my presentations are more than just a book signing or reading. I talk about the story behind the story and share how I find ideas, research and craft my books. As well as learning history, it helps pupils to understand non-fiction books and gives them ideas to improve their own writing.

I tend to be busiest around World Book Day, Windrush Day and Black History Month so please request your school visits as soon as possible, particularly during those periods.

What’s the difference between your talks and workshops?

I offer two types of ‘meet the author’ Black history presentations for children:

  • A 30-minute talk consists of a presentation followed by a Q&A.
  • A longer workshop consists of a presentation followed by an art activity.

My talks are suitable for schools.

My longer history-themed art workshops are more suitable for museums, libraries and festivals.

Virtual School Visits

I understand that sometimes schools are struggling with limited budgets. A virtual ‘meet the author’ talk might suit you better than an in-person talk, especially if classes are combined.
