October is Black History Month in the UK.
Although I’m talking about, writing about and sharing Black History all year round, this is time of year when the topic gets a dedicated month.
Having a Black History Month helps people to focus in on the history and its importance. And, in today’s busy world with so many different topics to focus on, that’s a good thing.
Black history is still too often limited only to stories about enslavement and civil rights. Struggle and resistance are an important part of Black history. There’s no denying that. However there is so much more to Black history. I’m happy we have a Black History Month which gives us the opportunity to focus on them.
